After a year of P90x and P90X + (twice each) that included lots of weight work, I am now doing Insanity, which is no weights and lots of cardio. Am I supposed to be adding weight and ab work outside the workouts (which are killing me) in the schedule? or should I just keep following the schedule and trust that all that will come together? Thanks.

This workout is not meant to be a muscle building workout per se, but you will gain muscle and tone for sure. You can supplement with weights if you please. You do tons of plyo exercises which I feel is enough personally.

It depends on what you're looking to do with your body. If you want to have the very lean muscle then do your protein and insanity. If you want some bulk as well or want to keep any bulk that you have then you should throw in some weight work. I think once a week will be enough because even with insanity you do a lot of full body work and your body weight is plenty to work with for the most part.
Good luck.. but I can guarantee insanity will make you the leanest most cut you've ever been if you give it 100% each workout.
