Hi everyone! I just started Insanity last week and I feel great and have lost 2 pounds. I am following the diet for the most part, substituting things here and there and sometimes subbing in my own dinner. I did P90X twice and saw great results from that, but took a long hiatus from working out and gained everything back over the winter months. So here I am trying out insanity and the first week was tough, but I feel great! I am still trying to figure out what the right amount of calories is for doing this workout. I used the formula in the nutrition guide, but the calories suggested seem like so much, even when i subtract out 500 calories. I have never done such high cardio before. Does anyone know how many calories are burned with the Insanity workouts?

Welcome discodiva. I recommend that you purchase a heart rate monitor as you will benefit from that information in regard to calories burned. Surprised you don't have one completing P90X twice.....at least for the Kempo cardio part. I burn approximately 560 cals in the 38-42 minute workouts, 775 during the 60 minute workouts. Have not reached 1,000 cals yet; compared to 45 minutes on my elliptical at 440 calories. You are female so I am unsure what your calories burned will be. The Elite Nutrition Plan is for your Basal Metabolic Rate, that is ALL the calories you burn in a 24 hour cycle. That is why the numbers seem large, when compared to calorie food intake (while only awake). Reduce your intake by at least 500 cals per day and if you ingest approximately 1500-1800 cals., you will see some weight loss. Overall INSANITY is for strength conditioning, not really weight loss unless you are talking the 5-15 pound loss range. I just don't see this workout for overweight or obese candidates. Good luck!

    Hi AJ,

Thanks for the information. I never got around to getting a heart rate monitor, it's on my list. I will most likely buy one so i can track my calories. I guess it's not really weight i'm looking to lose so much as fat and inches. I am 138 now, so i'm not overweight or obese by any means, just need some definition, but not bulk. I am already seeing results and my pants are fitting better and this is only week two, so i'm really pumped about it. Thanks again!
