I am 38, in ok to good shape, and really want to order this workout but I am concerned because I have had bad knees since my teen years (they make all sorts of noises and grind). This looks rough on the knees- are there modifiers?

No modifiers in INSANITY. No, this is not for you if your knees have chronic problems. Way too much lower body work in INSANITY.

Agreed. This is not for people with bad knees. Even people with healthy knees sometimes come out of it with cranky knees. (*raising hand*)

i agree...i think the one thing everyone has shared throughout insanity is sore knees, and i can only imagine it would be horribly worse starting out with chronic knee problems

Unfortunately, I have to agree too. I had normal knees going into it and mine were sore beginning in the second month. They have since healed back up which is good, but it is definitely hard on the knees.

My husband and I are on day 22 of insanity. I would definitly say its been hard on the knees. My husband is in the army and has bad knees from that. He has to "modify" a few of the workouts such as doing belt kicks instead of switch kicks. etc... etc....Depending on how bad your knees are I would not recommend insanity. They would definitly get worse!!! See if you can borrow one dvd from a friend or someone you know who has it and try it out to the best of your ability. Modify a few of the workouts and see if you think you get the same results. If not, don't waiste your money!! If you feel comfortable with it, then do INSANITY! its a great workout!

I also agree. This is hard on the knees. I will say that mine are better now (doing my 2nd round of Insanity) than when I started. All the pounding is tough on my 44 yr old knees though....

Followup.....my knees were 100% until the third week of INSANITY. Since that time, I have had to take 1 week off, now I wear a knee brace during all INSANITY workouts, and apply ice nightly. Only my left knee is affected (not effected, Lol). Also, I have had to take additional rest days and like today, I burned 780 calories with a duration of 1 hour 6 minutes for MAX Interval PLYO including cool down. Although I am strong, my knee is a PITA. I have already seen my DR., who diagnosed as bursitis and overuse. I have no chronic knee problems and I hope they don't start now. I am completing week 6 now. Seems this 60 day workout may take 90 days due to knee rest.

Being a hockey for many years I've had surgery on both my knees and I also have 2 herniated disc in my back L4/L5. I will admit my knees have bothered me and I now have extra matting under my surface which was already matted and that has helped tremedously. During pure cardio I believe there are jumps right after the Jump rope and those are the only jumps I skip completely and I just keeping jumping rope for 1 more minute instead. So, While I won't totally disagree that's it's not for you I would say my back is feeling better than it has in 3 plus years and I believe my core work and constant thinking about using my core and that proably goes on in my sleep as well. Just for factual info I am 5'8" and 160 lbs. which is not a big load to have to carry for my frame.

AJ, I wondered how your knees fared after your last post. Glad you went with the brace and I hope it gets you through. A followup on mine: I wore the wraps all the way through month 2 and didn't take them off until the last fit test. I didn't want to wear them for that because, let's face it, they're clunky and uncomfortable and I was going for numbers. My knees were trashed after that fit test. I have no doubt the wraps were necessary that whole time. I hate wearing those things, though.

It's been a week today since I finished Insanity and my knees have not gone back to normal yet. I still feel little twinges using the stairs or standing up from sitting on the floor. Not a big deal but noticeable. I've done high-impact twice in the last week with the wraps on.

I agree with John that for some reason, this has been great for my lower back (as long as you're precise on form).
