I've decided to start the Insanity workout this week. I'm considered 'obese' but have ok muscle tone and can run over a mile without too much exertion. I've played sports my whole life and am used to workouts but need to really lose some weight; things that walking, running and resistance bands aren't doing. I do have one concern though, at the beginning of this year I had a knee injury in which I had a grade 2 sprain of my left MCL and it was undetermined if I fractured the tibial plateau. There was no surgery, but I had PT for 6 weeks and was on crutches for about 2.5 months. I have fully recovered the extension that I lost when I injured my knee. My doctor (the idiot that he is) had never heard of this workout and said that if I could run a mile without stopping that I should be able to do an intense workout. I feel good about my knee and comfortable that it's strong now, but should I take any more precautions to protect further injury other than ACE bandages and proper shoes? The doctor didn't really have much to help me with here.

Honestly, it sounds like you need to talk to a different doctor. I am certainly not one, but can tell you this: Insanity is extremely hard on the knees. I have never had knee problems in my life and by the end my knees were sore every day. It took a good 3 weeks for them to get back to normal. Search through this forum for "knee" and you will see others with similar experiences.
So, if you have knee issues I would say to get true medical advice before starting this workout.
