Questions about the recovery week

Does anyone know the scientific reasoning behind the recovery week that is scheduled between months 1 and 2? I haven't previewed that week's workouts yet, so I'm not sure how difficult they are. Have any of you had to cut back on calories during that week to maintain your weight?

BTW-I just finished week 3 and I feel wonderful.

Rest days are always important to allow your body to rest and rebuild. In addition switching things up makes your body work harder. I always find that I come back from short breaks (1-2 days) stronger and more energized.

I personally didn't think the recovery workout was rest. It was still a good workout! So don't be fooled in thinking it will be a lazy week. You'll still be digging deep.

I personally think too that it is helping strengthen some areas that will be worked more in month two (like the hips and shoulders).

Hey Sunnyday, I just finished week three too!

Like yogimomma said, our bodies need to recover...that is when we re-build and heal, and get our bodies ready for the more kick-butt month two :) I think the what recovery week is (correct me if I'm wrong), is recovering from intense cardio. You are still building muscle though, so for that you should keep the calories the same :)

Question about Recovery week - I am starting my Recovery week today (haven't previewed it yet). Do you still sweat a lot doing this DVD..how many calories can you burn (approx range)??

mm, I found the Recovery week aka Core Cardio And Balance to contain a sane mix of drills. Warmup incorporates 1 minute drills of exercises that are familiar via month 1. The overall duration is 38 minutes and yes, you do sweat. I burned an average of 500 calories. Shaun T introduces multiple consecutive exercises into new drills and upper body moves. I enjoyed this week because like I said, it is more controlled and less hectic than the rest of INSANITY. Enjoy!

Excellent stuff. I start recovery week tomorrow and was hoping it would be a mixed bag and hard enough to keep the body distracted and growing. I am strongly considering cutting out about 500 cals a day in month 2 in hopes of getting rid of this last bit of fat around my belly. Has anyone cut cals in month 2? Did your workout suffer if you did??? As for AB work I was thoroughly happy with cardio abs and i'm thinking this may be that at a tougher level and then some. I will preview tonight to get a sense.

I like the Core Cardio & Balance workout. You get a good amount of cardio for the first 75% of the workout then there are a lot of shoulder burners and hip flexors that really get you sweating.
