I'm strongly considering doing the Insanity Program. I need something really intense and want to do it at home. Right now, I'm training for a half marathon, so I'm running a lot. Does anyone know if you're supposed to do insanity in addition to other training or should I just cut down on how often I do it? Is it programmed only to work if you do it exactly according to the schedule? I don't think I'll be able to do both a 7 mile run and insanity on the same day.

Hi Darcy,
Insanity plus marathon training would be too much, and I actually think Insanity on its own would be more effective if it were, say, five days a week instead of six. I'm going to test this theory in my third round. But, I digress. There are lots of ways to do it, but here's what I'd do.
Because the Insanity workouts serve different purposes, you could substitute running for the steady-state cardio days on your schedule. Pure Cardio and Max Cardio Conditioning are the straight cardio DVDs, so I'd just leave those out and run on those days.
Plyometric Cardio Circuit (and Max Interval Circuit) are the HIIT cardio DVDs, and Cardio Power and Resistance (and Max Interval Plyo) are the HIIT plus bodyweight resistance training DVDs. The HIIT and resistance training would help you in your marathon training, I think.
So, making sure you keep your rest day and your non-impact day (Cardio/Max Recovery), I think if you ran on the straight cardio days and maybe swapped out one of the other workouts for another running day, that'd be ideal -- as long as you got the HIIT and HIIT/resistance DVDs in at least once that week. Make sense? good luck!

HI Sara,
Thanks so much for your reply! I'm still boggled at how awesome the internet is for things like this...Your advice really helped. I'm going to try exactly what you suggested! My training is only for a 1/2 marathon, but I'll still be putting in a lot of miles because I want to increase my speed.
I'm going to place my order now for Insanity!
I love your profile pic, too. I LOVE yoga. Too bad we can't work out together!
Have a great weekend.

Darcy,
There's a day-by-day record of my first Insanity round plus pictures at yogidoesinsanity.blogspot.com.
Reading other people's blogs really helped me through that 60 days and helped me avoid pitfalls, and writing kept me accountable. Good luck!Posted 1 year ago #
