I have been using an old cheapie that I bought off of Overstock a few years ago, but I just ordered an Polar FT7 Men's Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Black / Silver)
which should be here next week. I am looking forward to it and will review on the blog.

I had been using an older Polar model. It has been working ok but it is old. I too just bought the Polar FT7-womens heart rate monitor. I will use the old one as a backup. If the heart rate monitor didn't work for some reason, I felt I would not be able to do the workout. The workouts are so intense my heart rate is pegged out most of the time. Disappointingly when I tried it the first time for the Cardio Max - it wasn't communicating with the transmitter. It worked great today though - max recovery.
It is much more comfortable to wear than the older model. The calorie burn is a fun feature. Don't know if I trust it though.

From what I have read it is pretty accurate (I hope so!). That is the reason I am switching, I don't trust the cheapie I have. I also have a problem with the strap moving and/or losing signal now, so I am hoping the FT7 will be better.

I haven't had any trouble with it after the first day. It worked well through Max Cardio Circuit today. No lost signal even through the stretches, I always lost the signal during stretches with my old one. I think as far as heart rate it is very accurate. Today doing Cardio Circuit my heart rate was either low high range (breaks) or high high range with a calorie burn of 660 calories! I don't know if I really burned that many but it sure felt like it! I really hate to drink my calories but I was loving the recovery drink today.

Ditto! The polar FT7 is great...feature rich and I have never had any signal coding problems. Purchased at the Sports Authority for $109.95. Very pleased with the quality and features and is accurate for HR and Kcals burned. Also lets you keep your workout data and transfer your data to your PC for progression records and workout performance.

I can tell you which NOT to buy, and that's the Bowflex. I had to return mine to Amazon. Not only was it erratic but it refused to take a reading with any temperature fluctuations. Couldn't take a reading outside -- and couldn't take one during a workout. Not even once. Avoid!
