Welcome to The Insanity Workout Blog
Hello everyone! My name is Sean Cantkier and I am about to embark on the grueling mission of completing the entire Insanity Workout home fitness program. From what I have read and seen so far, this could be the hardest workout ever put on DVD! Wish me luck and please subscribe to this blog to follow along day by day to see my progress. Of course, let me know if you want to try it too!
What is the Insanity Workout?
The Insanity Workout is 60 day total body fitness program. There are 10 different workout routines that are rotated throughout this program. Shaun T, the man behind this program will push you to your limits every workout. By the end of the program you are promised “mind-blowing results”. I tend to believe it because I have taken a peek at the videos and have done 2 different workouts just to see. Let me tell you, they are HARD!
What is the secret behind Insanity?
The main premises of the Insanity Workout is what is called Maximum Interval Training. Maximum interval training is a method in which you perform long periods of max effort exercise with very short intervals in between each set. This goes against conventional exercise methods in which you exercise moderately and then have a short burst of intense effort. It is this method of training that pushes you to perform as much as you possibly can before keeling over, which builds muscle and burns fat more effectively. Each interval consists of either killer cardio, Plyometrics, sports drills, resistance training, and core exercises.
Why am I doing this?
That’s a good question! Seriously, the answer is that I want to be in the best shape of my life. This is one of my goals for 2010 and I chose this route to get there. I don’t consider myself out of shape really. I actually am underweight if anything. I normally run 2-3 times a week as it is and eat healthy. For me, I actually want to gain some weight (muscle) along the way. In the next day or 2 I will post a “before” picture so that we can compare at the end of 60 days.

This is some helpful info, thanks. At the moment I’m really focused on getting ripped six pack abs. It’s my personal aim these days. quicker I’ve been told that egg whites, oatmeal, salmon, blueberries and broccoli are all important to include in my diet. Anything else I’m not thinking of?
Hey! i’m about to order mine now…but i won’t be able to do it til my ankle heals up, but yeah…I can’t wait to start it!
Awesome Lydia! Let me know if you have any questions and good luck!
well i FINALLY started my workout today. i didn’t get a chance to do the fit test yesterday so i did it today and then did plyo cardio circuit…it was hard…but i don’t know…kinda fun… I love doing the football type drills. I am a girl so its something i have never really done
i hope my foot holds up…i may have some type of bursitis…got a cortisone shot and taking some type of medication…if it does not get better they tell me ‘i may have to learn to live with the pain’…what is that all about???
sorry that was TMI but just had to share…sooo happy :>
I take it you aren’t doing the nutrition guide?
Yes I am! My own variation of it though. For me, I am trying to add some calories, but the basics of high protein, low fat diet apply. You need to follow this for optimal results. Cut out the fats, sugars, and all the junk from your diet and it will make a big difference.
Hey everyone – I recently started the Insanity program (I am on day 13) and searched the internet to find a forum I could join to see/discuss/complain while in the midst of these 63 crazy days. I had a baby 10 months ago and was having a hard time getting and keeping motivated to lose the weight (20lbs still to go) I came across this program on TV and something clicked…I just had to have it. I was so excited to get my materials and my excitement has not dimmed too much (we have recently had a couple of tragic life events occur that has made me have a hard time wanting to take time away from my kids). I have not lost any weight yet, I am not following the nutrition plan but I do follow Weight Watchers (well, I should say I try…need to work on that). I took my measurements, but not a picture yet I will try to remember to do that today. Sorry I am all over the board here….I am really happy to have found this forum and I can’t wait to see where I am at on day 63 and beyond.
hey im 21 years old, Im slender (used to run) but still have a lil belly… so I started insanity 2 months ago, but had to quit because I had no time; so now Im starting again but something’s different, I get dizzy easily, and I can’t finish a whole session cause I can’t breathe… so, what should I do?
If you are dizzy and short of breath, definitely stop. Make sure you are drinking enough water. Also make sure you have a heart rate monitor to check your heart rate. Don’t overdo it!
I’m 50, and have been doing the P90X program for 1 1/2 years. Recently got Insanity, but is making an old knee injury flare up. I’m thinking of combining the 2 workouts, so that I do Insanity 2-3 times/ week, and P90X 3 times/ week. Any thoughts or recommendations? I’m a female and on medication, and interested in weight loss, while building muscle. Thanks!
I would be careful with the knee because Insanity does not get any easier on the knees. You must make sure you are using correct form above all. You might want to check with a doctor if you have a pre-existing condition as well as if you are on medication.
My goal is to get a ripped core along with a strong base for my lower body, but at the same time I wish to bulk up to become stronger, especially my upper body. I am told that insanity really strengthens the core and lower body, but makes you lose weight and possibly muscle mass. I am about 5′9” and 170 pounds. I can afford to lose some body fat but I already do not have much to lose. My main worry is that I will not be able to bulk up if I do Insnaity.
Therefore, my plan was to do Insanity while doing weight lifting. I am not sure whether to do 3 days of lifting with 3 days of insanity or do insanity after lifting. What do you think would be the best for my situation? Thank you.
P.S. I am planning on using protein shakes and creatine along with my regular diet.
If you are planning to bulk up and do mass weight gain, then this is not for you. You will certainly gain muscle doing this, but you will be working your muscles every day. This tones and strengthens them, but does not add bulk as bodybuilders desire.
I’m 31 and weigh 135, i gained weight due to a lot of stress but I’m still small. I bought insanity hoping to lose weight, tone and strengthen by body. Insanity is the toughest workout ever! Congrats to everybody that completes it!! I’m on day 10 and have a workout partner, he’s lost 7 lbs. already but I haven’t lost anything and I’m even on the lowest calories needed, per insanity, to lose weight. I know I have to wait the whole 60 days but just seeing how everybody’s lost weight by day 10 even, it kinda discourages me when I’m eating right and even doubling up on workouts some days, insanity and running and am even taking hydroxycut. I’m not sure on what else I can do!!
